Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto

Villa del Palmar Loreto Beach Villa

Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto invited me down to experience what it is really like to go glamping in Baja. And yes, it is  really THAT good.

I just had one of the best getaways.

With my passport in hand, I ran sprinted through LAX practically hurdling ropes and gates like a mad woman with only moments to spare. I had a direct flight to Loreto B.C.S. (LTO) and it was going to leave with or without me and my luggage. During my solo marathon, I came to terms with the fact my bags were now flying stand-by, but I was determined to get on that plane. I wanted go to Mexico. I NEEDED to go to Mexico.

Mexico, I am in you.

Those who follow me on Instagram and Facebook saw I made it. So did my bags. You also saw my incredible photographs of my time in paradise. I knew a few months in advance that I was headed to Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto invited me to experience what it’s really like to go “glamping” in Baja, Mexico. And yes, it is really THAT great., but I purposely limited my online research prior. I hadn’t visited the country in years and typically, I like to leave my expectations at home and experience the innocent wonder as it unfolds. And I’m so glad I did. No website, reviews, stories or photos can truly capture the essence of this resort. There’s something so magical and peaceful that just cannot be put into words. It’s the land of wishes and shooting stars.

Do not disturb: I’m on Mexico time.

siesta |sēˈestə|noun – an afternoon rest or nap, especially one taken during the hottest hours of the day in a hot climate.

I have never been so relaxed on a vacation before. The air, the breeze, the view of the Sea of Cortéz, sunrises and sunsets – it’s impossible not to want to do everything and nothing at the same time. Sure there is snorkeling, boating, yoga, clam diving and tours of Loreto, but there are also plush cabanas, all-inclusive cocktails and the spa (Oh, Manuel, you have the hands of an angel.) Make sure to find Oscar and ask him for a lesson and tasting in tequila. He will introduce to you the proper way to drink tequila the way you appreciate fine wines.

And if you have the chance to take a boat tour with Frank and Daniel – don’t think twice – just do it. Not only is it a blast, and a wonderful way to spend the day, but these two are so much fun to be around. You can’t help to laugh the whole time. Just hold on to your hat and sunnies because these two make the boat fly.

Love you like XO, Baja.

The small fishing town of Loreto B.C.S., Mexico. I really can’t recall a more special place. It’s a feeling. I’m on a perpetual quest to find peaceful places and I swear Loreto could be my Heaven on Earth – it was silent. I know this world is big, but walking off the dock into this small town, you were welcomed by a warm breeze and could hear a pin drop.

Time stood still and beauty reigns supreme. The trees that lined the cobble stone streets were carefully manicured into perfect arches protecting the homes and storefronts from the sun, while restaurants proudly displayed signs declaring “You catch it, we’ll cook it!”

And the Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó founded in 1697 was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity to have been able to visit and say a few prayers.

Forward my mail. I’ll be at Villa del Palmar at The Islands of Loreto

What about the accommodations? Clean, spacious and affordably luxurious. Villa del Palmar at The Islands of Loreto is a perfect spot for not only couples, but families looking to explore Baja in comfort while having fun. The property offers a wide range of deluxe rooms, one- and two-bedroom suites, penthouse and the pièce de résistance: the Danzante Bungalow.

TIP: The mornings are rather spectacular, so try not to sleep in very late.

Stephanie, a.k.a. Sunshine, from TravelBreak.net recently wrote about the people and how wonderful they are. Oscar (my tequila connoisseur,) is just one of the many that made my experience so grand. It’s important to note Samuel, Zayra, Noelle, Sixto, Mario, Miguel, Ruben (and his sidekick,) German and Guilliermo as well. The entire team had such a profound impact on my getaway that it will be impossible not to revisit them as soon as possible.

Now, let’s talk about Alfonso Peregrina, Executive Chef. Oh, Alfonso. He made me so happy. Not only did he prepare one of the most delicious dishes I have ever tried at Danzante, but I enjoyed talking food and hearing about his culinary visions so much. His plates were carefully executed, and the layers of flavors burst especially when fresh local seafood and ingredients  were used. His personal on-site garden plays an intricate part in the selections like the Shrimp Tiradito served with tamarin chutney that I loved so much. Bite for bite I wish this dish never ended. So clean, and seasoned to perfection – my only regret is not ordering one (or 12) more time before I returned to the states.

Now, this is a place that I’d love to visit next year for our annual family travel! $99 per night? That is such an amazing deal. We’d be flying out of Seattle, but that is awesome. I’d love a siesta at Villa del Palmar.

Aye! I’m jealous now, haha. I was just talking about it with my family, how I miss my motherland and really really want to explore more in Mexico! I’m hoping to travel around for about a month or two straight one day. I’m glad that you enjoyed your time there, I haven’t been to Baja yet! I went to D.F. (Mexico City), Guadalajara and some towns nearby since that’s where my family are currently living at. OH! I went to Cancun last spring as well! Beautiful as well there. 🙂 Enjoy Mexico!
