Terranea Resort Rancho Palos Verdes Media Weekend

Welcome to Terranea Resort

Tucked away on a 102-acre private peninsula in Rancho Palos Verdes, overlooking the Pacific Ocean sits a retreat where romance is born and California fairy tales come to life. JetSet friends, welcome to the picturesque, luxurious eco-resort, Terranea (pronounced: terra-NAY-a). Nestled between gorgeous foothills, crystal blue waters and incredible sunsets, those following The JetSet Family on Facebook and Instagram, have already seen a sneak peek of our trip sponsored by Terranea, a Destination Hotels & Resorts property, and we’re ready to share more.

Terranea Resort Influencer Weekend
September 2014

Throughout our Terranea Influencer Weekend, we managed to pack in as much as possible at Los Angeles’ premier oceanfront getaway, yet it was still perfectly relaxing and nothing felt rushed. Only a quick car ride from Los Angeles, Orange County and even San Diego, Terranea Resort is the perfect escape for California residents looking to change up the scene.

The moment your car arrives inside Terranea’s beautiful motor court, it instantly dawns on you that you are about to experience something special. But it is not until you actually step inside the hotel entrance where you need to catch your breath. Imagine floor to ceiling windows and doors overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island. Not a cloud in the sky and just a warm breeze from the sun who is about to take a twelve hour nap. You can’t help reaching for your camera or a sip of that champagne that Nick from behind the desk just poured you.

Terranea Pacific Ocean Sunset

Terranea is a far cry from your typical California beachfront property. It is a collection of residential-style accommodations, traditional guest rooms and suites, a nine-hole par-three golf course, the Spa at Terranea, three ocean-view pools and eight exclusive restaurants, bars, cafes and lounges. The family friendly vibe is woven throughout the property where kids rule and can explore everything from hiking, falconry, surfing, fishing trips and more thanks to Terranea’s Aqua-Terra Adventures package. Yep, I said falconry.

tieks Terranea Resort

Saturday morning started out a bit grey and gloomy, but tieks by Gavrieli sure did deliver the sunshine by gifting me with a pair of gorgeous flats. TIEKS!!!! They understand what it is like to be a JetSet Mom, and very well could be in the running to become our JetSet Family preferred shoe for travel. Pair those with my favorite magazine, a touch of RDJ and a hot cup of java and nothing is stopping this JetSet Mom.

What JetSet Tot Thinks…
An honest review from a well-traveled seven year old.

What are five things you loved about Terranea Resort?
1. Nelson’s giant pretzel was the best in the world. 2. I had so much fun on the water slide at the pool.  3. Being able to see the ocean wherever I was. I loved watching the waves crash and sunsets at night. It’s so pretty. 4. Did you know Terranea has a bird program with an owl, falcon and hawk? They were rad and very cool to watch. 5. Dad and I went on the Discovery Trail hike at sunset while mom was still at the spa. I think that was my favorite part, exploring. Terranea is my kind of place. I can’t wait to explore again.

Out of the eight signature restaurants, which one was your favorite? What dishes did you love?
My favorite spot to eat was bashi. Chef Bruce was so cool and made me the best dinner. I ate a LOT that night. Especially, the Caterpillar roll…Oh. My. YUM! I loved it so much I ate the leftovers for breakfast! And his Lemongrass Lettuce Wraps are delicious also. Hot and spicy, but delish! Sea beans has this gelato sandwich that I’m still dreaming about. I’m sad we didn’t have a chance to try Nelson’s or mar’sel. Both restaurants had so many dishes I wanted to try.

What was the best part about your King Oceanview Room?
I loved sitting on the balcony with my dad each morning. We’d stare out at the ocean and count the sail boats. When I’d hear the bell ring at Nelson’s, I’d know to look to the sea because that means someone spotted marine life. Thanks to those bells, we saw quite a few dolphins playing. At night, I loved looking up at the stars and watching the beacon from the Pointe Vicente lighthouse shine over the resort.

What would you like to see, do or try during your next visit to Terranea Resort?
I think my first stop would be to say, “Hi!” to Chef de Cuisine, Charles Olalia at mar’sel. I have my eye on a few of his dishes. I’d also like to explore the cave Carlo pointed out on the private beach and the Tide Pools down the street. Oh, real quick, I had such a good time at Pointe Discovery. I just wish I spent more time there. My new name is Bocce Ball Champion of the West.

The fine print

Terranea Resort truly is Southern California’s best kept secret. When I asked around, I received one of two answers: “Wow, I love it there and can’t wait to go back!” Or, “I’ve been dying to visit, please tell me what you think.” It’s the perfect resort to check in and get lost for a few days. Even though we experienced so much in 48 hours, there are still so many reasons to revisit and never do the same thing twice. I find that refreshing. I also loved this thoughtful welcome amenity upon arriving to our room. xo

Terranea Welcome Amenity Sangria and Tapas

Pros: Waking up each morning to dolphins, going to sleep each night counting the turns of the lighthouse beacon, tuna sushi at bashi and gorgeous sunsets.

Cons: The walk from the main hotel to any of the guest rooms can be pretty far in heels. Opt for a piggy back ride or a new pair of tieks and you should be golden! Also, Terranea is a favorite of the local residents. Make sure to phone in reservations for The Spa and your favorite restaurants well in advance to make sure you don’t miss out!

My overall assessment of Terranea Resort is nothing but positive. Guests with or without families will appreciate everything this upscale resort has to offer and I applaud their exceptional guest service, fantastic food, unparalleled views and overall experience. Thank you, Terranea Resort for hosting a lovely weekend.

And let’s not forget the staff. Such an integral part of the team, from Kevin at the Concierge Desk, to Carlo and J.C. at valet, Terranea, and Nicole at bashi, the staff at Terranea takes guest relations very seriously. We were treated like family and appreciate every single Terranea team member we met. Such a great group to spend time with.
