Summer in the City – With Kids!

Don’t let the big city name fool you, The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles made us feel like family.

I’m still not sure how they did it, but on our recent ‘Summer in the City–With Kids’ weekend, our new Ritz-Carlton family made it happen. At this very moment I am basking in the most comfortable deluxe accommodations. Nestled in a fluffy king-size bed 23 floors up, I’m typing away in the dark because I’m enjoying the neon lights of L.A. Live dancing outside my window. I have JetSet Tot snuggled up next to me and she is passed out in her new fluffy pink robe. She is clutching onto the cutest stuffed Ritz-Carlton lion which she named, “Ritzy”.  For the life of me, I can’t understand how she has fallen asleep because she’s consumed six times her weight in sugar alone today!

I certainly can’t stop thinking about the most amazing dinner we just came from at Wolfgang Puck’s WP24. William and Nikos took care of our every need and again, treated us like family. From extra-cherries in JetSet Tot’s Shirley Temple, to Nikos performing a beautiful Shakespearean sonnet for Tot and presenting her with a card from the staff, we were spoiled!

Oh, and then there was the dessert buffet this evening inside the Club Lounge a few doors down from our room with treats like miniature key lime tarts, chocolates and a fondue station. OK, and earlier there was breakfast, lunch, appetizers and those macaroons! The macaroons! OK, enough with the macaroons, but make sure you do not leave without trying the signature iced-teas. Darius puts so much love into making it everyday and the teas infused with fruit are so delicious! Jovan and Asaf was also there to help us with anything we needed while spending time in the club lounge, and Jovan really earned points with JetSet Tot by giving her the coolest toy to keep her occupied. Later that evening, the wonderful, Tory, figured out exactly what I might like and brought me a cocktail I will dream about for a long time. It was absolutely perfect!

I realize I am all over the place, but did I mention the fact that I saw with my own two eyes the Ludwig kit that Ringo Starr played with The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964? It was over at the GRAMMY Museum which is a few short steps from the hotel. The JetSet Family loves music, so walking around the GRAMMY Museum is always a special treat for us.

Today has been ridiculously amazing, too bad I can’t fall asleep because all I keep thinking about is how tomorrow we’ll be enjoying breakfast with Amy at Kerry Simon’s L.A. Market. Then off to the California Science Center to see the space ship! Yep, the same one JetSet Tot photographed last fall flying over Disneyland!

I’m going to be sad to say, “Good-bye to Alex and Olga” when we check-out, but we’ll be back. And no one took care of JetSet Tots American Girl dolls like our bellman, Jesse. He handled her prized possessions with kid gloves.

Sounds pretty amazing, right? The Ritz-Carlton’s ‘Summer in the City–With the Kids’ package is available until September 2nd. Like I said, don’t let the big skyscraper fool you, this place is home.

  • What a great package they seem to have for kids. I never seem to stay at hotels like that. I can’t even seem to get a mint on my pillow. I am definitely staying at the wrong places, of course I am in Ohio not LA. It sure looks like you all had tons of fun that is for sure.

  • Rosey August 10, 2013

I’m going to be flat out honest and tell you I’ve never considered the Ritz Carlton because I didn’t think they were kid-friendly. We travel quite a bit, and I will be keeping this chain in mind. It looks like you had a wonderful time, and that I was entirely too hasty w/my opinion. I’m glad you had a great time.
