Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

Did someone say, “Burgers?”

I’ve been hearing the buzz surrounding Plan Check Kitchen + Bar for awhile now. It usually sounded something like this, “Hey, have you tried Plan Check Kitchen + Bar on Sawtelle yet? It’s a great Friday night spot for burgers.” JetSet Dad considers himself a burger connoisseur so he was eager to check this place out as well. And we were equally excited to find out that PCK + B on Sawtelle is about to expand their already fantastic menu to include modern twists on kids’ favorites.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar Sawtelle

This past Sunday afternoon we spent time with founder, Terry Heller, and Executive Chef Ernesto Uchimura previewing Plan Check Kitchen + Bar’s new Kids’ Menu at the Sawtelle restaurant.  All dressed in her ruby red Livie & Lucas, JetSet Tot had a great time noshing on delicious foods, getting her face painted and getting her sugar fix at the DIY house made cruller donut station.  OK, so maybe JetSet Dad loved the donuts as well, but I was a fan of their DIY lemonade stand which was celebrated with the cutest mason jars and strawberry and blueberry syrups. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the ice. We all know how obsessed I am with ice cubes and these might be the very best in all of LaLa Land. All other ice cube wannabes take notice.

Some items have been pulled directly from PCK+B’s regular menu and made tot-sized, while others have been added specifically to tantalize the taste buds of pint-sized foodies. I have to say, the junior sized PCB [Plan Check Burger] sans onions!, BBQ Chicken Stix and Root Beer Floats are off-the-charts. And the moment you see anything with “crunchy cheese,” you know it simply has to be amazing.  Oh, and speaking of cheese, the PCB Grilled Cheese has been added to the menu just for the kids and it is delicious. Think mom’s homemade grilled cheese…only better. Best part of the menu? Everything tastes better with bacon and almost everything is served with it.

“I want to reinterpret our popular dishes—such as the PCB and our Smokey Fried Chicken—so they’re better suited towards a younger foodie palate,” says Executive Chef/Partner Ernesto Uchimura. “Children naturally gravitate to foods like burgers and mac n’ cheese, so its due time that we create a menu just for them.”

Preach on, brutha! Could I love Chef Ernesto’s vision any more? I want to hug him right now. This is exactly the type of eateries The JetSet Family gets excited about and wants to share with our readers.

So after a fabulous day, it is safe to say The JetSet Family not only highly recommends Plan Check Kitchen + Bar for L.A. families,  but we’ll be back soon so Hubs can finally try the Chef’s Favorite Burger with cheese two ways, bacon two ways, ketchup leather, sunny fried egg and hot sauce. YUM!
