Greetings from KAABOO Del Mar
What to know before you go…
This post has been brought to you by our partners at KAABOO Del Mar. Everything you need to know before you go to San Diego’s coolest festival.
Whoever said, “All music festivals are created equal,” clearly never experienced the luxurious side of KAABOO Del Mar. As summer winds down and we feel the Santa Anas move across the Southland, SoCal residents know that can only mean one thing: It’s KAABOO time! What makes KAABOO so special you ask? Besides the entertainment, it’s the access to coveted experiences like a front row center VIP viewing area for all the performances, private backstage lounge, and artist meet and greets, made available to those ready, willing, and able to break out the plastic.
Fans travel far and wide to be a part of the festivities every year as the annual event brings the biggest names in rock, indie, hip hop, comedy and food to the people across several stages. We are now just days away from San Diego’s coolest event, and don’t wait one more second, because this weekend is your last chance to get tickets! That’s right, as of press time, tickets are only available online and not available on-site the day of the shows at the Box Office, but more on that later.
Just showing up at KAABOO 2018 is not an option, so let’s get planning!
So what makes KAABOO Del Mar such an incredible weekend? The experiences are everything! At KAABOO, all guests are treated to a completely “immersive, multifaceted and hospitality-driven adventures and escapades that engages all five senses.” In addition to musical heroes up on stage, and world-class artists everywhere you turn, KAABOO guests enjoy an indoor HUMOR ME comedy club; an on-site Contemporary Art Fair in ARTWORK, plus a display of outdoor murals and installations; PALATE gourmet food and craft libations tastings; a Las Vegas-style day club called BASK, plus spa and relaxation services at INDULGENCES which without a doubt makes this the most luxurious festival on the West Coast.

KAABOO Lineup for 2018
Press Play: The Headliners
Foo Fighters (a.k.a. The Official Band of The JetSet Family)
This year, KAABOO Del Mar is bringing to the Rolling Stone Sunset Cliffs stage one of the all-time greats on Friday night. Foo Fighters will headline night one on both weekends in support of their Concrete and Gold tour. This band was made for large crowds, and while you can expect to hear a few new songs, you can bet you will be rocking out to favorites spanning the last two decades like “Monkey Wrench,” “The Pretender” “All My Life,” and “Everlong.” If we are lucky, we may even get treated to some deep cuts for the real “Foo Nerds” to enjoy like they did a few weeks ago in Hollywood.
We’ve written about the Foo Fighters so many times on this blog that they rightfully deserve their own tab or category by now. And guess what, we have no intentions of stopping. Kiddo has seen them 5 or 6 times since her days in the womb, and I’m somewhere in the 30-40 show range. For those who may not be familiar with Dave Grohl and his merry band of pranksters, trust when I say you know more than you realize.
You can’t turn the radio dial without passing an Imagine Dragons tune which promises to draw huge crowds. This American pop rock band reigning from Las Vegas, led by frontman, Dan Reynolds, first gained exposure with the release of single “It’s Time,” followed by their award-winning debut studio album Night Visions which resulted in the chart-topping singles “Radioactive” and “Demons.”
Start your week out right with a dose of the one and only, Ms. Katy Perry. KAABOO attendees are about to ROAR with delight as they are treated to an amazing performance. Singing hit after hit, anyone lucky enough to see Katy Perry perform live and in person will drop their jaw in amazement of her set. Get ready to dance and have a great night. Katy Perry also announced an exciting partnership with MusiCares® to launch the official Katy Perry Cares Pass program. Katy Perry fans can purchase a Katy Perry Cares Pass which allows entry into the festival starting at 6pm Sunday night to exclusively see Katy Perry perform. Katy Perry Cares Passes are available for $89 exclusively at www.kaaboodelmar.com/katycares.
Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters
If you know me, you know that there is only one other band I love more than the Foo Fighters, and that’s Led Zeppelin. I’ll admit, I think they are the best band in the history of the world. However, since I have no chance in this lifetime to see them perform live, I’ll take the next best thing, Mr. Robert Plant. One day remind me to tell you about the time, many moons ago, that I ran into Robert Plant while at the legendary CBGB’s in New York City. I’m pretty sure he was my first major celebrity run-in and one I will never, ever forget.

We checked in with KAABOO alums and fellow festival goers and came up with these tips for making the most of your weekend:
- Plan Ahead – Some things you can bring with you are: Blankets or beach towels, bags (under 18” x 12” x 8”), empty water bottles, strollers, Go Pros (no poles or extenders), wheelchairs or medical scooters. Don’t even think about entering with: Abusive, foul or disruptive language, chairs, tents, stools or other seating devices, coolers, fighting, taunting, or threatening remarks or gestures, fireworks, firearms and weapons of any kind (including parking lots), illegal substances, drugs, and drug paraphernalia, laser Pointers, outside alcohol or food, professional cameras with lens longer than 2” (detachable or non-detachable) and professional recording (photos, video, audio) equipment, this includes any stands, monopods, tripods, attachment sticks, selfie-sticks, or commercial equipment, signs, and flags on sticks or poles are just a few.
- Arrive Early – Beat the traffic and avoid lines or delays by getting to KAABOO earlier in the day.
- Pack light – If possible, leave your bags at home. It’ll get you through the security screening much more quickly.
- Dude, Where’s My Car? – Mark your car’s spot with the Map app or another app.
- H20 – Make sure you hydrate. Not alcohol, but plenty of water. And don’t forget sunscreen!
- Festival Fashion – Wear comfortable shoes and consider a hat. The days in the sun are long. While you may want to make a fashion statement, you most definitely want to wear comfortable shoes.
- Lock ’em Up – Keep your personal belongings safe and secure inside personal lockers available on-site. When you reserve a locker online, you will receive an email 24 hours before the fest containing your locker location, locker number, and lock combination so you can simply find and use your locker. You will have unlimited access to your locker.
- Download the KAABOO Del Mar official app – To access schedule online for Apple and for Android
KAABOO Del Mar gates will open at 1:30 PM PT on Friday (9/14), at 12:00 PM PT on Saturday (9/15), and at 11:30 AM PT on Sunday (9/16).
