Four Seasons Westlake

The JetSet Family // Four Seasons Westlake Village

Picture perfect.

Nestled perfectly in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and Malibu wine country, I was pleasantly surprised to find Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village is much closer than I realized.  If you follow The JetSet Family on Instagram, you would have seen lots of snapshots of our lovely getaway courtesy of the resort. Having never been visited before, I was very excited to explore and see everything the resort had to offer. In fact, I loved it so much, I included it in my Top 10 Best Hotels in Los Angeles article for CBS.

Welcome to Four Seasons Westlake Village

What was JSF’s initial reaction upon arriving?
I immediately noticed upon pulling up to the entrance of Four Seasons Westlake Village how manicured and well-maintainted the property was. Beautiful flowers lined the divider and the motor court was spotless. I appreciated how kind and courteous the valet and bellman were. They were very welcoming and ready to answer any questions I might have had.

How was JSF treated by the staff upon arrival?
I was immediately greeted and welcomed by every staff member while walking the short distance from my car to the registration desk. This was quite refreshing and set the tone beautifully for the remainder of our stay. They even gave Tot a great stuffed animal to welcome her on property.

Did check-in go smoothly in a timely fashion?
Check-in went very smoothly and we were registered within a matter of moments. The desk was fully staffed, including a designated Concierge, which made any wait time non-existent.

Upon arriving in our suite, what type of welcome amenities if any were waiting?
It was a pleasure to find a handwritten note, beautiful fresh fruit and giant “welcome” cookie for Tot. We also received a beautiful bottle of Elle Saab Evian water and apple juice to enjoy.

Deluxe Waterfall King

Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village

Was it big? How was it decorated?
The room was very spacious and decorated beautifully with traditional furniture and fabrics that reminded me of the home I grew up in down to the carved four-post rice bed.  The ceilings were very high and had a rather large chandelier which you could dim. The room was very clean and tidy, but I didn’t expect anything less since housekeeping stops by twice daily.

Does it have a private balcony or veranda? How was the view?
The large windows do partially open; however our room did not have a step-out balcony or veranda. The view of the garden waterfall and Santa Monica Mountains in the distance was picturesque.

Was the bed comfortable? Enough pillows and blankets?
Our king bed was one of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever had.  Tot kept saying, “Mama, this bed is like falling into a cloud!” I’m pretty sure I’m going to need to surprise her with one for her next birthday. The down pillows and linens were quite nice as well. I had the thermostat set at a cool 68 degrees throughout our stay and there was only need for one blanket. #InBedWithFourSeasons

Did the room meet JSF expectations? Was it spacious? Did it have wi-fi, a/c, etc.? How is the mini-bar
The room definitely exceeded my expectations. I loved the decor, it was very comfortable and everything was very clean. The room was 450 square feet total. Make sure to properly connect to the house Wi-Fi (which is complimentary,) or it is difficult to get a strong signal. The mini-bar was fully stocked with delicious snacks and beverages. The hotel also provided in-room coffee and tea to prepare at your leisure.  Complimentary newspapers were available upon request, so was a sound machine.

Was the bathroom big? Private? Does it have a tub and shower? How was the water pressure?
The full marble bathroom was complete with a deep soaking tub, stand alone shower and private toilet area.  The water pressure in the shower was good and had a removable shower nozzle as well as a stationary shower head.

Are complimentary robes and slippers available for use during your stay?
Yes, two plush terry bathrobes were waiting for us; however no slippers.

Was the bathroom clean and orderly? Does it have a TV and phone?
The bathroom, shower and bathing areas were perfectly clean. While bathing we enjoyed a great selection of TV channels. Tot’s new obsession is Pioneer Woman and she was thrilled that she could take a bubble bath and learn how to make ‘Berry Butter’ at the same time.

What products are made available upon arrival? What brand?
Spa-sized L’Occitane products are available upon arrival. Verbena Shower Gel, Verbena Body Lotion, Shampoo and Conditioner.

Breakfast and lunch

How was the vibe and overall atmosphere?
Open and airy with terrific views, it was very nice to enjoy lunch overlooking the ground’s waterfall.

How was the presentation of the small plates? What stood out?
I thought the presentations were fabulous. The fresh hummus really stood out and tasted just as delicious.

What did JSF order as an entree?
I am a big fan of their 1…2…3…LUNCH! option. Choose a soup or salad, 1/2 sandwich or 1/2 salad and dessert for $20 in 20 minutes.

What does JSF recommend?
I ordered the curry carrot ginger soup which was mind-blowing; the sustainable salmon salad with local peas, shaved beet, upland cress, radicchio, tangerine, goat cheese, and smoked almond vinaigrette; and berries & creme fraiche for dessert. All were delicious.

Chef de Cuisine and Master Sushi Chef: Masa Shimakawa

What is the tastiest signature drink at ONYX Restaurant? How was the vibe and overall atmosphere?
I loved the vibe of ONYX. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted, and brought to our table. It was upscale, yet very comfortable. Outside seating was available; however the World Cup was on, so we opted to dine inside.  I ordered the FENG-SHUI which had Ruby Red Absolut, Lychee Liqueur and Pomegranate Juice. It truly tasted like a vacation. Next time? I would really like to try one of the progressive sake flights featuring four unique selections.

How were the presentation of the small plates at ONYX Restaurant? What stood out?
We tried so much that night! The Spicy Garlic Edamame was fantastic as was the Miso Soup. But what really stood out was the Lobster Summer Roll with avocado cream, pear tomatoes and sweet mango. Not only was it light and refreshing, but it was visually gorgeous.

What did JSF order as an entree at ONYX Restaurant?
Kurobuta Spareribs accompanied by the most delicious pickled slaw, spinach and vegetables.

Did ONYX Restaurant have any stand-out dishes on the Kids Menu?
Tot had a fabulous Bento Box and loved the Teryaki Salmon with California Roll, Local Greens and Brownie. A very special thank you to Chef Shimakawa for making our dining experience so wonderful!

Hotel activities

Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village

What are the pool areas like? Are their lifeguards on duty?
Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village has two pools. The Serenity Pool is for adults only, and their beautiful indoor pool and whirlpool jacuzzi welcomes children. Lifeguards are not on duty, so it is very important to supervise your children while playing in the pool.

Are there any kid clubs? What about activities for teens?
There are centers for both younger children as well as a teen room equipped with state of the art electronics, video game center and billiards table. The areas are not supervised; however Four Seasons Hotel Westlake will gladly assist arranging babysitting services upon request.

What type of programs does Four Seasons Westlake Village offer for children?
Once a month, Four Seasons Westlake Village holds a two-hour cooking class for children inside the  state-of-the-art, demonstration Wellness Kitchen. Providing kids a hands-on approach to cooking,  mini master chefs have a blast while learning about the importance of fresh ingredients and better eating habits. The most recent class was a fantastic Wasabi Kids Wellness course where the lil’ ones learned how to prepare sushi, Japanese noodle dishes and cook with a hibachi. Very cool stuff!

California Health & Longevity Institute

What services are provided? How was it? Would you recommend it to a friend?
Everything you could possibly imagine! 41,000 square feet of space, 28 treatment rooms, 30 face and body services and 12 types of massages, there is plenty to choose from. Medical treatments are also available for those seeking dermatology, nutrition, fitness and dentistry services. Yes, I would recommend the California Health & Longevity Institute spa at Four Seasons Westlake Village to a friend.

What package or treatment would you recommend?
The special WOW-ME WEDNESDAYS package is really wonderful. Parents can visit the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village for a choice of 50-minute Custom Organic Facial, 50-minute Maternity Massage or 50-minute Tranquility Massage, AND receive up to four hours of complimentary childcare at the Spa. Upgraded services are available and valet parking with validation is $5.

What specifically enhanced your visit? What was your favorite part?
I can’t decide. It is a tie between relaxing at the Serenity Pool and Yoga in the Rose Garden.

How was the overall cleanliness?
It is apparent, the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake and California Health & Longevity Institute take cleanliness and overall appearance very seriously.

I really appreciate how dedicated  Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts are  interacting with guests across various social media channels. It’s no wonder they received top honors for a second year in regards to the 2014 Travel + Leisure Social Media in Travel + Tourism Awards (SMITTY) – we are especially fond of their Pin.Pack.Go. Pinterest Campaign.  A few of my favorite Four Seasons Hotel hashtags for Instagram are #FSTaste #FSfotog and #ExperienceFS. These travel hashtags make it easy to communicate and share realtime experiences with the brand.

My overall assessment of the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village is nothing but positive. The property is extremely family friendly, exceptional guest service, beautiful locations, fantastic food and not only would I highly recommend it, but I cannot wait to go back! I love when their is a designated concierge. It’s great to get questions answered quickly about things to do ect instead of waiting in line behind people checking in or out.
