Monsters University

My favorite place in the entire world to watch a feature film is at the El Capitan Theater in the heart of Hollywood. Thank you very much to Disney, JetSet Dad and I brought JetSet Tot to an advanced screening of the new Pixar movie, Monsters University being shown in the best movie theater in the world. For those who have never had the pleasure to screen a movie at El Capitan Theater it is magical. You are greeted by an organist playing Disney theme songs, and the architecture is beyond. We’ve even seen movies where confetti, rose petals and SNOW fell over the audience! If you haven’t caught my drift, El Capitan Theater is very special.

Truth is, I can’t even sit through a half-hour television episode unless it has been previously recorded and I can fast forward through the commercials. I also can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a children’s movie straight through without multi-tasking or falling asleep (occupational hazard of being M-O-M.) But MU was different.

Who remembers Gilbert, Lewis, Poindexter, Booger Presley and Takashi ‘beatin’ on the drum’? Guess what? They’ve been replaced by Mike, Sully and Randy. That’s right. Somehow Pixar has perfected the Revenge of the Nerds and made it into an awesome flick for kids! Monsters University brings us back to the days before Mike and Sully were friends. We are quickly reminded how our lifelong dreams and goals never shoot directly the bulls-eye straight on, they bring us through the craziest loopy-loop paths and detours so that we can meet our best friends along the journey.

“I don’t mean to get emotional, but everything in my life has led to this moment. Let it not be just the beginning of my dream, but the beginning of all your dreams.” – Mike Wazowski

I couldn’t have said it better myself. So whether you were a Alpha Beta, Phi Beta Kappa, Tri-Lam or Omega Mu, Monsters University was fantastic. This is one pep rally you are not going to want to miss and it opens in theaters June 21st!

Here’s JetSet Tot’s official journal entry for Disney Pixar Monsters University:

Today I went to see Monsters University. It was fun because it was in 3D. The theater has a man who plays Disney music on the organ before the show. The movie was great! Mike and Sully went to college so they could learn to scare kids. I really loved this movie. – JetSet Tot, 6

Monsters Inc. was one of those movies that parent’s loved, too. I figured it’s sequel would be the same way. Like you, I can’t usually sit through a kid’s movie. I haven’t seen this yet, but I really want to!
