My Besties: An Afternoon with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler

Drew Barrymore Adam Sandler Blended

Blended. Yep, we’re on a first name basis. You know, my BFF’s, the incredibly beautiful Drew Barrymore & the hysterically talented, Adam Sandler. Yes, THAT Drew & Adam duo. So I spent the typical Hollywood Monday screening their new rom-com, Blended, for a very cool press event. Pffft, NBD. Whatevs, I also had a fab lunch and getting spoiled with beauty treatments courtesy of Drew’s (<–see first name only,) cosmetic company Flower Beauty.

Who am I kidding? I was freaking out. FREAKING. OUT!

No joke, it was like I hit the Tiger Beat lottery. I immediately wanted to burn Drew a CD mix to bring her like I would with my besties back in the day. I didn’t, but I was positive I was bound to do something muy stupid-tante.  Yes, that’s a word. It’s a fancy-pants JetSet Mom word.

I narrowly escaped making a complete asshat out of myself, but I did tell her about the mixtape and she asked me to make her one AND called me her BFF in front of the whole entire room. I DIED. I’m fairly certain this makes me BFF’s with Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon by default as well. Wurd.

Drew Barrymore is my original #1 girl crush.

Move over Shirley Manson and Busy Philips, well maybe not entirely… (you are both still high on my short list.)

Let it be known, Drew is almost one month to the day younger than me, so I’ve been obsessed with her and her career since, oh, I don’t know…kindergarten. I can’t count how many times as a teen I was busted for reading Little Girl Lost with a flashlight after lights out. Over and over and over. Then I lent it to Andrea and never saw it again {insert sad face}. And whenever I’d see her in a new glossy spread I would hightail it to the closest Contempo Casuals with the hopes of scoring the same look. Usually? It turned out exactly how you’d expect, an epic fail.

Even in my thirties, I’d see her with a Peter, Bjorn & John T-shirt on SNL and run to download their latest and greatest. I know, I’m hopeless, but I really don’t care she’s the bombdiggity and I want to go with her on vacay or to a concert.

My besties

Adam Sandler is every dude’s wannabe BFF.

And Adam Sandler? See my most of my high school and college years consisted of my guy friends imitating his awesome Saturday Night Live skits, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison and word for word of the genius, They’re All Gonna Laugh At You. My personal fave? From Wedding Singer:

“Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.” – Adam Sandler

What I didn’t expect was how much I was going to adore Adam Sandler after spending a short time with him. I was so completely wrong ever thinking someone so over the top funny couldn’t possibly be so down to earth, kind and at ease connecting with fans. The truth is, Adam Sandler is absolutely delightful and I enjoyed my time with him so much.

Blended Event

We were first treated to a preview screening at TCL Chinese 6 Theater on Hollywood Blvd. I enjoyed Blended. The movie mixed my love of travel with my favorite rom-com couple so I welcomed the silly side of the script. When this dynamic duo first appeared on screen in The Wedding Singer, I was single and dating, I wanted fun, light and airy – nothing too serious, I “got” this movie. When 50 First Dates was released, I was a few months away from being married, so I was exploring stories with deeper connections and this hit the spot. Now that I have a family of my own, Blended resonates with the love parents have for their kids and the day-to-day and long-term decisions we make as parents for our children.

I’m not sure why I was so nervous because these two were kinda sorta sing-it-with-me: AWE-SOME. So beautiful, so funny and just everything I knew my BFF would be.

The end.

Love this. I totally have a girl crush on Drew Barrymore too – I watched so many of her flicks as a teen. And Adam Sandler seems so hilarious and goofy, love to hear that he’s also down to earth. Sometimes meeting celebs don’t live up to your expectations, but it sounds like this time it did.

  • Lindsay May 26, 2014

JEALOUS! Drew is my FAVORITE! People used to tell me I looked like her in Poison Ivy when I was about 12 and had a perm. And people told my sister she looked like her in ET 😉
