During the last leg of our recent trip to Colorado, my husband, son and I spent time with my younger cousin and her family in Winter Park. While more popular with Denver locals due to its proximity to the city, Winter Park offers one of the most impressive landscapes I have seen while traveling over Berthoud’s Pass. Winter Park is a quaint Colorado town with lots of local dining and shopping.
On our last day, upon my cousin’s suggestion, we decided to book a morning dog sled ride with Dog Sled Rides of Winter Park. This was hands down one of the most memorable experiences of our trip. I made a reservation online about two weeks before we left home and I am glad that I did because they were booked solid for the remainder of the day.
The family owned business is run by Tracie and Jeff Martin who could not have been more accommodating. We were met at the car by some of the retired sled dogs who have seemed to have joined the business as well-mannered greeters. Make sure to allow yourself time to check in and get your snow gear on. DSROWP have over 80 beautiful huskies on hand to pull you through the family’s acreage of property.
My son and I were wrapped up snugly in a sleeping bag on the sled and after a few simple instructions we were off! Our guide for the morning was Christina and she was fantastic. Aside from the sheer beauty of the ride through the woods and open planes of snow, I was amazed at how well everyone knew the name and personality of every single sled dog. Each litter happened to be lovingly named after a set of TV show characters or mountain peaks. There is no doubt how well this entire team of dogs are loved and cared for.
On hand to capture our ride was photographer, Art Ferrari of Ferrari Photo Visions. Based in Winter Park, Art was there to shoot every moment which I greatly appreciated and highly recommend. What better way to remember a great day than with images to cherish for a lifetime.

This looks like my kind of activity. I love doing things that are challenging and a little different. A dog sled ride would be a blast.

Huskies are one of my favorite breeds of dog and I actually had a pet husky as a kid. Such beautiful animals! What an amazing experience this must have been.

I like that it only took simple instructions to get up and running. I’d have thought it more…but I guess that’s because I’d be a little chicken. I’d so do it though! Love the pics!

I have never done anything like that before, but that sounds like my idea of adventure. Maybe someday!

Wow that sounds like fun, went to Colorado years ago, and that would of been fun, now old and retired and don’t do things like that, but it does sound wonderful and I would of loved riding with a team of huskies around Winter Park, thank you for sharing this trip with us lounge hair travelers..
