While in L.A. for our ‘Summer in the City–With the Kids’ getaway, JetSet Tot and I headed to the 24th floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles for some fine-dining at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. It was our lucky night because not only was the restaurant debuting their brand new menu, but the wonderful and fabulous, Nikos, would be waiting on us for the evening.

I was really curious to see what JetSet Tot was going to order because I knew there was no ‘mac & cheese’ back-up here, but before Nikos could even find out what types of drinks we’d like to order she peeked at the menu and yelled, “I know what I’m having! I would like the Chinese Crystal Dumplings.” What can I say? My girl has great taste!

Specialty Cocktails & Sushi

We started out the night with cocktails, she with her usual fancy-dinner drink, the Shirley Temple, and me with a Pearfect Asian. The sushi chef was kind enough to prepare some delicious toro nigiri for JetSet Tot to ‘snack’ on before her Dim Sum arrived. I was able to sneak one from her, and not only was it mouth-watering, but the freshly prepared ginger was the best I have ever had. I like to think of myself as a ‘Ginger Connoisseur’ and honestly, I could’ve eaten a bowl of it on its own.  Too bad a little jetsetter beat me to the punch.

From the wok.

Next up, was Shanghai Noodles from the wok. This is what dreams are made of. Everything about this dish made both of us happy. And now I have a six year old that has asked me four times since we’ve been home, “Ummm, mama? When will you make me some oxtail noodles?” Oh, darling child of mine… we better leave that up to Wolfgang.

Dim Sum

JetSet Tot eats very fast, as in lighting fast. It is something we’re working on, but halfway through my meal, she was done and ready for her Chinese Crystal Dumplings. I mean, could you blame her? These were little pillow balls of heaven with king crab and shrimp inside. I hurried up and snagged one because I knew they would be gone quicker than I could say…

Large Plates

I was full and couldn’t eat one more bite; however I really wanted to try their Singapore Chili Prawn. So the chef was kind enough to prepare for me a small tasting dish and, “WOW!” Talk about a punch. This tiny dish packed more flavor and more heat than anything I have ever tried. I’m a big sissy when it comes to spicy, and this was no joke! While delicious, and I know JetSet Dad would scoop this up in an instance, I think I’ll save these for the pros and have to try something a little less ‘fiery’ next time. I suppose I better not try the ‘Angry’ Lobster!

Happy Endings

Sure enough, as I look up from my Singapore Chili Prawn, JetSet Tot is already diving into Chinese Donuts with some chocolate dipping sauce on the side. This child! But I was so surprised when I heard something I’ve never heard out of her mouth, “Mommy, I’m full.” Ladies and gentlemen, she’s human!

Wait, there’s more!

So then this happened. As we were getting ready to leave our table, the amazing and fantastic, Nikos, comes over to us and performs the most beautiful Shakespearean sonnet for my little JetSet Tot. He then hands her a flower, and a note signed by everyone in the restaurant. The gesture was so kind, and so thoughtful, I tear up each time I tell the story.

What a fantastic lunch! Frankly, I thought the whole meal sounded divine, but the sonnet puts it over the top! Your little JetSet has amazing taste. I wish I could have shared her dumplings because the look and sound divine. Yay you for raising a daring young eater. I am thrilled for all the wonderful meals she can look forward to since she is willing to try new things.
