Sun Basket Organic Meal Delivery Review

Sun Basket | What to Order

Attention: FOODIES

This week we had three of the most amazing dinners and no, it wasn’t at Newport Beach’s newest dining hotspots. It was right in our very own home thanks to Sun Basket. Holy moly. We’re talking incredible. These were the best homemade meals my family has enjoyed in quite possibly forever and definitely the most fun we’ve had with each other in the kitchen preparing them as well.

Sun Basket is a new healthy meal kit service that delivers ingredients and easy, delicious recipes for cooking at home.

Longtime readers of The JetSet Family know one of the reasons this blog is even a ‘thing’ is because Kiddo likes to eat. We’re not talking box mac ‘n cheese or frozen nuggets in the shape of dinosaurs, oh, no, cause c’mon that would only make my life a million times easier. Nope, we’re talking sautés, fine-dining, and flavors that would leave even James Beard nominees impressed. It should come as no surprise Kiddo is obsessed with Master Chef Junior and has a very big opinion when it comes to what we serve for family dinners.

What is a Sun Basket?

OK, so let’s rewind. When our Sun Basket arrived direct from the test kitchen in San Francisco, I was impressed with our care package from Chef Justine. The delivery was impressive, but was the contents really going to look, let alone taste like the dishes featured in professional photos on their website? That would be the true test.

Sun Basket | What to Order

Kiddo and I pushed play on our favorite Chef Soundtrack playlist see below, and carefully unpacked the chest of goodies. We went thru each individually wrapped ingredient and recipe cards to decide what we were going to prepare first. Since this was my first Sun Basket, I decided I was going to order meat, sustainable fish + vegetarian meals so I can get the full experience. This would also include Gluten Free and Paleo dietary options as well. I can’t begin to convey how much I appreciate that the meats, seafood and fresh ingredients are sourced from top West Coast farms and trusted ranchers and fishermen as well.

What to order from Sun Basket?

Everything was outstanding and the only items I needed to provide from my personal pantry was: olive oil, salt, and pepper. Every meal came with beautiful recipe cards that carefully outlined everything you’d need and how to prep and prepare each dish complete with nutritional values.

Roasted Salmon with spinach couscous and date-apple salad

Fun fact: “Pearl couscous, also known as Israeli couscous, was developed as a wheat-based alternative to rice. Its wonderfully nutty taste, chewy texture and ability to absorb the flavors of whatever seasonings it’s served with, makes it for a favorite culinary grain.”

Sun Basket | What to Order

Steak with purple sweet potato, mushroom salad and roasted-pepper sauce (gf, p)

Fun fact: “For this recipe, award-winning California Chef Justine, riffs on romesco, the classic Catalan blend of smoky roasted peppers thickened with almonds and seasoned with garlic. Her version has an incredible depth of flavor that tastes good on almost anything, but particularly wonderful on a well-charred steak.”

Honey-ginger Tofu with roasted bok choy and forbidden rice (v, gf)

Fun fact: Bok choy is commonly associated with stir fries, but it also takes surprisingly well to roasting. The leaves turn crisp, the core becomes tender, and the flavor takes on a delicate sweetness.

Can someone also prepare the food for me lol? I like the idea of food boxes but have had trouble with the prep!

That would make a great gift for my sister. They just moved and I was trying to think of a house warming gift!

Looks like some really good quality there. I wonder what the average price per meal is. If better than eating out, I’d be all over it!

This sounds like a great way to enjoy an organic meal. It would be great to not have to run to the grocery store for the meals.
