I can clearly remember growing up, the presents I received that meant the most to me weren’t the ones I waited the longest for. Nope, they were the ones I least expected. The ones I was given for no reason whatsoever, the ones that were really and truly a surprise. The ones were I didn’t have to prove I could ace my social studies test, or save up my allowance. Birthdays would come and go, and sure I can remember a few cool gifts that I really wanted, but mostly because my memories are triggered by blurry old Kodaks I’ve come across. But ask me about about the Cabbage Patch Kid I received on a random Sunday just because someone wanted to make me feel special for no reason. Those are the ones I still can still physically feel in my heart not only remember in my brain.
Last week, I brought Kiddo to Smashbox Studios for the launch of Celebrating Kirby: Planet Robobot, she ate more candy than Veruca Salt, and was happy. A different kind of happy. The kind of happy that reminded me of what it was like to be a kid on summer vacation. A lazy day in a good way. A break from summer reading, catching up on math and that’s when I got the idea.
A few days later a package from Nintendo arrived. I had a hunch already what would be inside, but I knew she didn’t. To what should our wondering eyes should appear? A brand new Nintendo 3DS XL and Kirby Planet Robobot. For a brief second, I knew I could hide it away for our next flight, maybe even Christmas or her birthday, but there’s no reason for that. I want to celebrate my daughter TODAY! I want to celebrate for no reason and I am so glad I didn’t wait.
The more I learned about the new Nintendo game system, the happier I was as well. I was not only impressed with the thought out parental controls, but the how user friendly the component was in general. Finally, a unit that I don’t need my child to teach ME how to implement the parental controls. Pffft. Will someone please tell me when I turned into my grandmother?
Thank you, Nintendo for helping making the day of this little girl who makes everyone else so happy all the time.
