It’s simple. When Anna speaks, the fashion world listens. When Michaele speaks, Orange County obeys. Yesterday, Michaele Hall hosted the Fall 2013 Fashion Trend Press Preview luncheon at Neiman Marcus Fashion Island, and fellow jetsetters, I am so pleased to announce: “It is officially time to have…wait for it… F-U-N!”
I’ve been saying for years that I would describe my personal style as “Preppy Rockstar” and I’m thrilled to report that ROCKER CHIC is a big trend this season. I had a sneaky suspicion when Anna Wintour donned this year’s Met Ball Gala “Punk: Chaos-to-Couture” that we were headed in that direction. I didn’t realize it would be so soon!
“Hell Bent for Leather…” – Judas Priest
My favorite look of the event was the very first one. Coco modeled a fierce rock and roll ensemble with a heavy metal biker jacket and plaid pleated skirt that would make any bad-girl Catholic school girl blush. A look that rivals the most hardcore punk rocker at CBGB’s in the early 1980s. The hardware! Those studs! Leather Tuscadero would be oh, so proud.
“When I’ma walking I strut my stuff…” – Violent Femmes
The runway showed fabulous Tom Ford goodness, Sergio Rossi VIOLET FEMME caged booties, single-sole Christian Louboutin pumps (yes, you read that correctly, single-sole Christian Louboutins,) and Manhattan circa 1980 pointed toes…so very Blondie Parallel Lines. Looking for something a little more casual, but still want the rocker feel? Check out these phenom Stella McCartney clunky loafers! We’re talking total BOYS TOWN. Time to put my favorite Gucci’s away, because Santa needs to bring me these in an 8.5 on his sleigh. No joke, I’ve been waiting since 1997 for these lovers to come back in style. I better stock up now. Sing it with me, “I’ll-take-one-of-each, please!”
Speaking of comebacks… On September 2nd, the amazing Manolo Blahnik Made-to-Order BB BOUTIQUE at Neiman Marcus is making it’s encore appearance. What is the BB Boutique you ask? Well sit down Jetsetter, because you aren’t going to believe those pretty little ears (or toes) of yours. Choose your heel size (from 55 mm or 2 inches, to 115 mm or 4.5 inches,) decide on the leather or suede of your liking, and Viola! You have created your very own custom pair of Manolo Blahniks. Major. Yes, we will be revisiting this come September.
“God Save the Queen” – Sex Pistols
Curious to hear about THE FALL FACE? Think soft classic with a touch of edge or infused with Goth. Tone down the cheeks, and tuned up eyes. Then make a HUGE statement with the lips – go dark, go light, its up to you. Think Old School Chanel Vamp. I personally love dark, dramatic eyes with a pale lip, but RED IS THE NEW NEUTRAL, so consider the legendary makeup artist and icon, Kevyn Aucoin’s TIME. It’s the perfect shade for any complexion. And his Precision Liquid Liner for your peepers is FAN-TASTIC! Some of my other faves while snooping around the cosmetic spaces at Neimans were: Tom Ford Black Orchid, Bobbi Brown Navy & Nude eye palette and YSL Taupe Nails. Yep – those nails are epic.
P is for Punk, so H is for Handbags
Small bags are back JetSet Friends! They are still muy fabulous and the perfect size for your essentials. I happen to love small bags and clutches despite my growing collection of large bags. Michaele referred to them as “mini-me” bags, I like that, I like it a lot. In fact, so much that I am going to being using that term. And Michaele also had the most brilliant idea for those about to scoff at the idea of transitioning to a small bag, she told us to simply get a larger bag to fit the clutch as well. LOVES IT!
Fall 2013 Fashion Trends
The other trends that I didn’t point out, but definitely deserve to be mentioned are: ANIMAL MAGNATISM, LACE NOIR, and the Multi-faceted Necklaces. Now off to shop my closet, but you can bet I will be seeing you for The Trend Event Preview on Wednesday, August 14th and Wednesday, August 21st.
What is your fashion style?
