And Disney Social Media Moms Conference
Praying for some Pixie Dust to land in your Inbox for next year’s Disney Social Media Moms Conference? I don’t blame you. I’ve attended other media trips to Disney and while they have all been special, DisneySMMC is above and beyond that. It is not only the most sought after and highly coveted invitation in the blogging community, but those who attend are treated to a side of Disney most only dream of ever experiencing. Trust me, I know.
We just returned from the week-long experience, and it was more than just a conference. It is a tribe. It is a family vacation. And It is completely worth the hype. Here’s everything you need to know before you go…
What is #DisneySMMC?
If you are new to the blogging world, or just hearing about the Disney Social Media Moms Conference for the first time, then welcome! Regardless if you are a Disney-phile or not, this is something you’ll be so happy you stumbled across.
In a nutshell, Disney Social Media Moms Conference invites between 150 – 200 hand chosen bloggers every year to one of the Disney destinations throughout the U.S. for a week of sessions, exclusive behind-the-scenes, special events, and a once of a lifetime opportunity.
During this time, you are not only learning and hearing from the Disney experts directly, but your family is invited to attend as well and visit the parks and attractions while you’re attending the conference for a few hours a handful of mornings. If that’s not special, I’m not sure what is.
But don’t think you can just sign up and go!
How Do You Get Invited to Be a Part of Disney Social Media Moms Conference?
This seems to be the million dollar question. For as long as I can remember, bloggers have vied to be included. Mom and Dad bloggers are carefully vetted, and if you are a chosen one, the invites (which the blogging community fondly refers to as “Pixie Dust,”) begin to roll out roughly six months before the conference.
However, there doesn’t seem to be just one sure-fire way one can score one of these almost impossible-to-score invites. There are many factors, and considerations. Do you already post about your Disney family vacations? If so, it’s safe to say you are already on their radar, and if you are not, trust me, you will be.
Do you post about your Disney experiences across your social media platforms and include the #DisneySMMC hashtag? If not, what are you waiting for? This will not only show that you are serious but call attention to your work.
But the biggest question, “Do you GENUINELY care about Disney?” If the answer is, “Yes,” keep reading!
Where is it Held?
The Disney Social Media Moms Conference has alternated between Disneyland and Walt Disney World over the years, but if you are lucky, you’ll have the chance to celebrate DisneySMMC on land and at sea like we had the chance experience this year. This permits us to not only learn a ton from the Disney experts but gave us a chance to explore different styles of Disney family vacations. Which I being a family travel blogger appreciate.
During our post-conference survey, the attendees were asked if we would consider future DisneySMMC at other locations? For me, that’s an emphatic YES! So hopefully this will include a return trip to Aulani, or perhaps something in conjunction with Adventures by Disney, or even better? A Disney Mediterranean cruise. How AMAZING would that be?
Who Attends DisneySMMC?
I’m not sure of the powers that be who handle the actual invite list, but they nailed it! Not only did I have an amazing time with my family, but this year, so many of my dear friends like Kim-Marie of Luxury Travel Mom, Amber of Global Munchkins / Rookie Moms, Misty of Frosted Events, Clarissa of Clarissa Explains It All, Kristen of Rage Against The Mini Van, Heather of The Sporh’s Are Multiplying, and OC Mom Blog herself, Shelby Barone attended as well with their families in tow.
So you can only imagine how great it was for our husbands and children that have grown up in this blogging world together, have the chance to spend an entire week with each other having a blast at the Happiest Place on Earth!
If that’s not a dream come true, I don’t know what is.
During the week I also met and became friends with so many bloggers I had never crossed paths with before, or have only met online. I couldn’t possibly share how many wonderful people fill the seats at DSMMC, but I will tell you if you go, be sure to meet and talk with as many possible. I will say one thing, as each day passed and I met more and more amazing bloggers, I quickly realized, this is a wonderful tribe to be a part of and I’m grateful.
Do You Need to Be a “Disney” Blogger to Score an Invite?
No, in fact, quite the contrary. While a large percentage, if not all, bloggers in attendance cover some type of Disney materials on their blogs, it’s not mandatory, but it will help!
What is Disney Social Media Moms Conference On-The-Road?
OK, if you are not invited to the week-long Disney Social Media Moms Conference, have no fear. They hold one-day “boot camp” type sessions throughout the year in major cities around the country. I’m fortunate to be located in Southern California only a few miles from Disneyland, so I’ve attended the last two DisneySMMC On-The-Road shows.
G R A T E F U L • How amazing is this? I still cannot believe longtime Disney Artist and Historian, Stacia Martin, drew me this one-of-a-kind personalized sketch of Minnie Mouse for my home office. It is such a special gift and I cannot wait to have it framed so I can remember her kindness whenever I look at it. It is a 🎁 gift I will always treasure. #DisneySMMC ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••➡ Disney Social Media Moms on JetSetFam.com ➡ Be kind and do something wonderful today. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I loved each one so much because we had the most amazing speakers, wonderful keynotes, received the best exclusive Disney items, and spent the remainder of the day and night at both Disneyland and California Adventure complete with fast passes!
Even though the sessions were only a few hours, I learned so much and had such a blast.
What Is Shared During The Conference?
What I love so much about this conference is how much I learn. The material shared by the Disney cast members is absolutely invaluable. The fact that the Chairman of Disney Parks & Resorts and the President of Walt Disney World cared enough to visit with us, as did the storytellers, photographers, and social media managers, is HUGE.
These are the people making magic for tens of millions of people in the parks and at home via the web. We were also treated to junkets and movie sneak peeks for upcoming films!
But we also heard about the Disney-side that often doesn’t make headlines. Many are unaware of how Disney gives back and what they do for children in need or children too sick to visit the parks. So many last wishes are granted, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. It was hard to watch and listen to many of these stories, but it resonated. So much that The JetSet Family has now made giving back a priority.
In addition to partnering with our longtime friends at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, we are looking to give back to the local children as well. The JetSet Family hopes to partner with many companies this year with hopes of obtaining donations and items that can be used to raise money for area grade schools.
How Much Does #DisneySMMC Cost to Attend?
Like any other blogging and social media conference worth attending, a ticket to the Disney Social Media Moms Conference will cost you. Is the cost high? Well, that depends on how you look at it. Upon receiving an invitation, you need to act fast and secure a spot by registering and submitting payment. So how much does it cost? In 2018, the $1,450 included one guest and $450 for each additional family member. The tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Was $1,900 plus flights worth purchasing a ticket? You bet your life it was.
Not even counting the exclusive events, complimentary meals, excursions, gift bags, and single conference ticket, if we were to head to Walt Disney World and on the Disney Cruise ourselves, and purchase Park Hoppers, it would have cost us a whopping $5,812 before airfare. That’s an unheard of $4,000 in savings. Talk about a once in a lifetime opportunity to the whole family!
What Does A Ticket to Disney Social Media Moms Conference Include?
Almost everything except a few meals, your flights, and incidentals like souvenirs. Oh, and many fast passes. We also received special Family Excursion packages for when we arrived on Castaway Cay. And if that doesn’t excite you, imagine you and your family heading over to the Animal Kingdom, before it even opens to the public, to enjoy breakfast in Pandora – The World of AVATAR, and ride the greatest theme park attraction ever, Avatar Flight of Passage, with NO LINES! Talk about AWESOME!
Would I Attend DisneySMMC Again?
In a heartbeat. Between the savings, what I learned, and how much fun we had, it’s worth every cent. It’s rare for you to be able to experience something this grand and this special with all of your friends. It really did feel like one gigantic family reunion. I would love to attend Disney Social Media Moms Conference again. And again…and again…
