Discover Scuba® Diving with PADI

SCUBA Diving Certification

What’s on your life list?

What is the one thing you have been dying to do, but you keep putting it off? Skydive out of a plane? Bungie jump? Swim with Great Whites? I hate using the term “bucket list,” but we each have that Life List item we say we’re going to get around to, but guess what? Conveniently, something always comes up. I might not be ready to swim with sharks just yet, but I am ready to take the first steps and get my fins in the water.

When PADI® (The Professional Association of Diving Instructors) reached out and asked me if I had any interest in experiencing their Discover Scuba® Diving program first hand, it was a no brainer. It was something I had wanted to do for years, but found every excuse under the sun why it “wasn’t the right time.” Now, I had no excuse and I couldn’t wait to take the first steps with an introductory class to scuba diving. This was also my opportunity to “test the waters” if you will, to see if I’m ready to take the plunge and obtain my scuba certification.

With the help of PADI Course Director, Casey Connell, I spent the day at Seas The Day Scuba learning the fundamentals of scuba diving both in a classroom setting and in the water taking The PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience. Discover Scuba Diving is a one-day program for people who have no experience with scuba diving, but want an introduction to the world under the sea. It’s not a scuba certification course, it’s just that first peek, that first adventure, that moment that ignites your curiosity, takes over your senses, and just totally blows you away!

Going into this I tried my best not to have any expectations whatsoever. I wanted to go in with a clear mind, and really absorb everything carefully since this was a new sport to me. But I certainly didn’t know I was going to learn so much in such a short amount of time that went far beyond ooohing and ahhhing over pretty fish and being able to breathe underwater with a device.

The Discover Scuba Diving experience included an Open Water Dive briefing where I was taught about the equipment used to breathe underwater, safety guidelines, and other tips that will help make diving a truly incredible experience.

What an absolutely amazing experience, I tried to do some snorkelling when I was a child – I would have loved to have gone up to scuba as well. x

That’s really neat. I’ve often wondered what it would be like to go scuba diving!

What a cool experience! Looks like fun. I love snorkeling but haven’t taken the next step to scuba diving yet. Maybe someday soon as my husband is eager to do more after his introductory class.
