I cannot believe I’m about to say this. Never in a million years did I think I would be uttering these words, but I think it’s time… so here we go, I’m going to say it… are you ready? Deeply inhales, squeezes eyes, squints nose, and lets out a Santa Ana winds size exhale: DOG! There. I said it. Yes, I think it’s time for a dog. Bear with me, I’m feeling a tad lightheaded and this is HUGE.
Kiddo and JetSet Dad want a dog so badly, but I am the hard sell on this one. They sure are darn cute, but we are on the road so much, and I have this thing with dog hair. However, the majority does rule in our home, and I’ve lost the popular vote, so now I need to learn everything, and I mean EVERYTHING there is about becoming the best darn dog mom in the whole Universe. And a doggonit (<—See what I did there?) I will be. I crack myself up!
And now I can’t get this Monkees song out of my head.
Pet Safety Event at Lexus Carlsbad
Talk about perfect timing, this weekend I am taking the first steps into doggie motherhood, and I’m San Diego bound, headed to the Pet Safety Event at Lexus Carlsbad. I’m especially intrigued by this event because you know our lifestyle, and I want to find out the best and safest way to travel with our soon-to-be furry friend. If you are in the area, come stop by with your leashed dogg-o between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM and say, “Hi!”
It’s the little things I really need to educate myself on, did you know in some states there are laws regarding restraining pets while inside a moving vehicle? I DIDN’T! Pet Restraint Laws here and here. So Lexus Carlsbad is doing the community a real solid by helping us drivers better understand how to keep Fido safe while traveling, and what the best way to feed and care for your pet on your next road trip. And all in the lap of luxury inside the all-new Lexus ES, LS sedan, and RX.
And then there’s this thing called Sleepypod, health and nutrition tips from local pet food providers, and here we go…the big one…a local pet shelter, to which attendees can make a donation. learn how to help contribute to the well-being of rescued pets, or in some cases LEAVE WITH ONE.
When you come say, “Hello” to me and my future “fur baby,” guests will have the chance to win a grand prize “Wag Bag” of Lexus gear, Sleepypod gear, pet food and more. Details and additional information can be found in the events section of A Girls Guide to Cars Facebook page.
What’s in a Name?
And now all I can think about are names for this pup. I actually imagine myself at the dog beach calling out these names. I’m not one to ever have a “Cookie,” “Fifi,” “Spot,” or “Rover,” I’m more of the “Chester,” “Rochambeau,” and my favorite, “Derek Shepard,” or “Marshall Erikson.” It’s the truth. You know you can imagine me screaming in the dog park, “DEREK SHEPARD, YOU GET BACK HERE!” Like the crazed TV obsessed lunatic, I am.
A Girls Guide to Cars have partnered with SPOT, or Saving Pets One at a Time, a volunteer rescue organization to help spread the word about rescues, fostering and helping pets find their fur-ever homes. Representatives will be on hand to share how you can become more involved. See, I told you, I’m so going home with “Barkney Stinson” aren’t I?
